Actemium Design, a leading name in regulated industry engineering and part of the internationally renowned VINCI Energies group. Whether you are an established Design Engineer or aspire to drive continuous improvement in engineering standards, this role offers you the opportunity to own the mechanical design checking process and help deliver projects that define tomorrow’s industrial landscape.

Checker - Mechanical Design Engineering

As part of our Mechanical Engineering team, you will play a crucial part in ensuring our designs meet both client specifications and statutory requirements. You’ll be involved from concept to detailed design, reviewing technical output and safeguarding design integrity for key projects across nuclear and other regulated sectors.

Main Responsibilities – Mechanical Design Checking & Technical Review

  • Carry out detailed technical checks of mechanical design deliverables, including calculations, drawings, specifications, and data sheets, ensuring compliance with project requirements, standards, and quality procedures.
  • Review and verify mechanical engineering calculations for accuracy, robustness, and compliance with statutory, client, and industry requirements.
  • Work closely with mechanical designers and engineers to provide constructive feedback, challenge assumptions, and drive continuous improvement in design quality.
  • Liaise with multi-disciplinary teams (EC&I, process, project management) to coordinate cross-functional design reviews and integration.
  • Support risk assessment, safety, and constructability reviews, flagging potential issues and driving early resolution.
  • Champion a quality-centric culture by promoting best practice, knowledge sharing, and mentoring less-experienced team members in robust engineering principles.
  • Document and report review outcomes in accordance with project and company quality management systems.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree (or HNC/HND with significant experience) in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Extensive background in mechanical design engineering, ideally gained in a regulated sector environment (e.g., nuclear, energy, oil & gas, process or heavy industry).
  • Proven experience in checking and validating engineering calculations, technical documentation, and detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Inventor or similar) and mechanical design/analysis software.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK and international mechanical engineering standards, codes, and statutory regulations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, analytical mindset, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – able to deliver clear, constructive technical feedback and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Full UK driving licence or ability to travel to client sites as required.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary package in line with experience, plus pension contributions, discretionary annual bonus, and Health Shield plan.
  • Outstanding benefits – 26 days holiday plus bank holidays, EV car scheme, company share scheme (qualifying periods apply), and death in service insurance.
  • Flexible working for enhanced work-life balance – hybrid/remote options where possible.
  • Supported career development – technical training, mentoring, and the backing of a global engineering leader in VINCI Energies.
  • Inclusive, supportive team environment that values every individual’s contribution and encourages technical excellence and career growth.
