Shiplift Joint Project Manager
9/10/2025We are seeking a Shiplift Joint Project Manager. The Joint Project Manager (JPM) will lead the coordinated delivery of the scheduled programme of intervention and upgrade works of the Shiplift. The successful management of this programme of works is critical to ensuring the sustained and continued use of this support facility which underpins the overarching Submarine Support Management Plan (SSMP). The JPM will ensure the project is managed to cost, schedule, and quality while maintaining the highest standards of nuclear safety, security, and environmental compliance.
This role will sit within the Approving Authority team. The Approving Authority team is responsible for ensuring nuclear infrastructure safety justifications & designs that meet appropriate standards and codes; and deliver the through life reliability and maintainability requirements.
Responsibilities:
Project Management and Delivery
- Lead the end-to-end planning, execution, and completion of the infrastructure upgrade and maintenance programme. Manage execution and completion of a predefined complex engineering upgrade and maintenance programme.
- Ensure all project milestones are delivered on schedule and within agreed budget constraints.
- Oversee and maintain a fully integrated project schedule.
Stakeholder and Multi-Agency Coordination
- Serve as the central liaison between the Superintendent Faslane Site (SFS), Deputy Head Infrastructure (DHI), Babcock Marine, and Specialist Contractors.
- Facilitate coordination meetings, working groups, and reporting sessions to ensure transparency and alignment.
- Manage interdependencies and conflicting priorities across stakeholders.
Governance and Reporting
Provide regular updates and formal reports to the Site Operator, including risk registers, project dashboards, and financial summaries.
Support and contribute to governance forums, audits, and assurance activities.
Escalate risks and issues promptly to the Site Operator and in accordance with agreed protocols.
Risk and Issue Management
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, including those related to safety, security, and capability to the Site Operator.
- Implement and maintain a robust risk management framework.
Compliance and Assurance
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant defence, health and safety, and environmental legislation.
- Support the development and application of assurance plans and quality controls.
Essential experience:
- Previous experience leading a project as a Project Manager in a highly regulated industry
- Full lifecycle experience from business case approval, design, execution, handover
- Experience of change control
- Experience of risk management
- HND in a related engineering/construction/project management discipline
Qualifications:
- Formal project management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, APM PMQ, MSP, or equivalent).
