Job Purpose / Overview
To provide professional, high quality engineering support to the HPC Project on behalf of the Plant Configuration Function of the NNB Technical Directorate and to ensure that the proposed design is compliant with UK regulations and context.
This role requires high levels of technical and organisational skills along with the ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Principal Accountabilities
The primary responsibility of the role of Configuration Engineer is to support the Change Control Branch of Plant Configuration in coordinating HPC's activities within the Configuration Management processes.
This will involve providing technical assistance and managing activities so that the Configuration Management processes owned by Plant Configuration are properly, adequately and efficiently implemented across the project.
The main scope is as follow:
- Along with the rest of the Change Control Team, the role will be the preferred point of contact within HPC for configuration management processes. In particular, the technical point of contact for Engineering Managers and Design Entities for all configuration management topics.
- Coordinates the contributions from HPC stakeholders to the progression of configuration management processes including resolution of Open Points, Design Changes, referential changes, and progressing agreements on Technical Interface attributes.
- Is responsible for controlling, supporting, overall steering and monitoring of the end-to-end configuration activities.
- Is involved in Design Handovers to NNB to ensure configuration control is maintained.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of data centric ways of working for managing design configuration.
In addition, the post-holder may be required to perform other tasks relevant for the project or to the personal development of the post holder.
Knowledge & Skills
- Degree in a relevant science or engineering subject or strong technical background preferred
- Experience within the Nuclear Industry useful but not mandatory
- Experience of process development and application within engineering projects
- Database management and coding skills preferred
- Understanding of quality arrangements required and associated with nuclear plant construction preferred
- Understanding of equipment engineering requirements
- Knowledge of design processes and activities related to Nuclear Industry preferred
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements
- Knowledge of power station design is desirable (EPR or NPP)
- Proficient project management, organisational and Coordination skills
- Great communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Decision making and escalation ability for resolution of issues
- Knowledge of budget and schedule management
- Ability to travel to different project locations including France

- Ability to extract and compile relevant data according to the task in hand, often from numerous sources
- Analysis of technical documents
- Performs analysis of data highlighting and summarising relevant issues
- Maintains accurate and timely records (systems, databases, spreadsheets).
- Can develop and adapt theories to deliver project milestones
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvements to procedures, processes and/or systems
