Tunnel Interior Structure Construction Superintendent M/F
The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Flatiron, Dragados USA and VINCI has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design Build project–the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
The project scope across a 9-mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2026.
PRINCIPAL/ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure work is completed on time, to a high standard and in line with Health and Safety guidelines.
- Conduct and document quality assurance and safety inspections throughout the construction process, ensuring that the work environment is acceptable, and that tools and equipment are in good working condition.
- Prepare and/or participate in the preparation of the Work Plan. Ensure that the works plan is consistent with the job site requirements.
- Make sure that works are implemented in accordance with the approved work plan. Report any deviation immediately.
- Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, subcontractors and other departments during the implementation of the works on the job site.
- Follow-up works schedule and report any deviation.
- Monitoring team performance on the field. Propose solutions to improve productivity whenever applicable.
- Communicate with his team daily informing about the objectives and highlighting the associated risks of the work to be done.
- Participate in the preparation of Budget and cost estimates, along with work timetables.
- Adept at establishing relationships with all parties involved in the construction process that facilitate harmonious working relationships during project, and permit prompt resolution of problems and conflicts as they occur.
- Identify and report recurring construction issues.
- Identify discrepancies with the design documentation and report them to the Field Engineer for further clarifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management or a related field required.
- 5+ years of construction engineering experience on heavy civil construction projects required.
- Knowledge of company safety policies and procedures to comply with company, local, state, and/or federal laws.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction, repair and maintenance of machinery and tools.
- Extensive experience in Road works in tunnel.
- Extensive experience in Tunnel structure construction.
- Ability to identify problems and report them on due time to his management. Propose associated solutions.
- Must be able to interpret drawings, written instructions, and construction methods.
- Proven knowledge in determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and engineers.
- Experience or skill managing time in order to complete task.
