Environment & Sustainability Advisor
05/08/2025Provide support and advice to operational teams on all aspects of environmental management, with a focus on waste management and treatment, developing environmental documentation, meeting legal and company standards, and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement. Understand and work with Clients and Regulators to ensure their environmental requirements are complied with. Support on site mitigation, sustainability of works and engagement with local stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and members of the public.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice and support to operational and design teams on environmental management, compliance, and specific mitigation measures, including pollution control and ecology protection.
- Develop, maintain, and implement environmental management and sustainability plans on project sites, ensuring they align with changing standards, legislation, and client requirements.
- Ensure on-site compliance with environmental legislation, processing applications, and securing necessary environmental consents and permits.
- Investigate environmental incidents and support the implementation of controls to prevent recurrence.
- Carry out environmental audits and inspections periodically, supporting internal and external audits.
- Maintain strong relationships with regulators, clients, subcontractors, and local stakeholders regarding environmental management and sustainability objectives.
- Deliver environmental training, toolbox talks, and on-site coaching to teams.
- Produce internal and external reports on environmental performance, compliance monitoring, and case studies.
- Contribute to teamwork, sharing knowledge and combining expertise across the business.
- Take personal responsibility and accountability for actions, always striving to improve and ensure health, safety, environment, and quality are not compromised.

- Strong knowledge and practical experience, Significant hands-on experience and a track record of work on construction or infrastructure projects.
- Environmental legislation, ecology mitigation (marine flora and fauna desirable), and environmental licences and consent applications.
- Bachelors in environmental science/management/engineering or similar (Master’s degree in a relevant field. Desirable)
- Level 6 Environmental Practitioner
- WAMITAB Level 4 (Desirable)
- IEMA Membership (Desirable)
- IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent COSHH Knowledge (desirable)
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and supporting software.
- Good interpersonal skills for effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of the utilities, construction, or civil engineering operating environment.
- A full UK driver’s licence and flexibility to travel are typically required.
- Internal environmental auditor qualification (ISO14001 Audit and Auditor exipierience desireable)
