About the Role
As a Principal Hardware Design Engineer, you will design, develop, and deliver high‑quality industrial control panels and systems across a variety of projects—primarily in the food and beverage sector. Your work will directly support major UK and international clients.
Key Responsibilities
Design industrial control panels, MCCs, and automation hardware to meet specifications and safety standards (IEC, UL, BS EN)
Produce schematics, block diagrams, general arrangements, and wiring schedules
Create detailed documentation including equipment lists, cable schedules, and BOMs
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technicians throughout delivery
Support procurement and resolve technical queries during assembly, installation, and commissioning
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and improvement initiatives
Build strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues
Skills & Experience
Proven experience designing industrial control panels, MCCs, or automation hardware
Strong CAD and electrical schematic design skills
Knowledge of industry standards (BS EN 61439, IEC 60204, UL508A)
Understanding of PLCs, relays, safety devices, VSDs, HMIs, etc.
Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) or equivalent experience
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Food & beverage sector experience is a plus
