The Role - SHEQ Advisor (Part Time)
We are seeking a motivated and experienced SHEQ Advisor to join our team on a part-time basis (3 days per week).
Working closely with project teams, control systems engineers, panel build workshop personnel, and the central SHEQ function, you will support the delivery of robust QSHE standards across office, workshop, and site-based activities.
You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle—from panel manufacture and factory acceptance testing (FAT), through to installation, commissioning, and site support—ensuring consistent application of SHEQ principles in both controlled environments and live industrial settings.
This is a hands-on role, requiring a pragmatic, proactive approach and the ability to work alongside engineers to embed safe and compliant ways of working without impacting delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Health, Safety & Wellbeing
Provide day-to-day SHEQ support across workshop and site activities
Review and challenge risk assessments and RAMS (internal & contractors)
Conduct inspections in panel build areas, offices, and project sites
Monitor subcontractor performance and site safety standards
Lead incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are embedded
Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and SHEQ inductions
Support safety culture development, engagement initiatives, and communications
Ensure compliance with key controls (e.g. LOTO, COSHH, PPE, fire safety)
Quality
Support the delivery and maintenance of a Quality Management System aligned to ISO 9001 and drive towards certification
Promote right-first-time quality in panel build, testing, and delivery
Conduct internal audits across workshop, office, and projects
Manage non-conformances, corrective and preventative actions, and customer feedback
Ensure document control of procedures, drawings, and specifications
Support continuous improvement and project review processes
Environment
Support environmental compliance across workshop and site activities
Monitor waste, energy usage, and environmental KPIs
Ensure correct handling and disposal of electrical and hazardous waste
Promote practical sustainability initiatives
This role is primarily based at a single site in Peterborough, combining office-based work with support to a live panel build workshop, alongside occasional visits to customer sites in the UK and overseas.
You will work across:
Panel assembly and factory testing environments
Installation and commissioning activities on industrial sites
Multidisciplinary engineering teams and subcontractors
Qualifications & Skills
Essential
NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) and membership of IOSH or working towards
5 years’ or above experience in a QSHE/SHEQ role ideally within an engineering, industrial, M&E, automation environment or similar technical environment
Strong understanding of workshop and site-based risks, ideally within electrical or control systems environments,
Strong knowledge and practical application of electrical safety principles (e.g. safe isolation, LOTO, BS 7671 awareness)
Practical knowledge and application of ISO9001 with experience conducting audits and inspections
Experience reviewing and challenging risk assessments and RAMS
Ability to engage and influence engineers and technical teams in a pragmatic, practical way
Confident IT skills and experience maintaining SHEQ records, reporting, and documentation
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to UK and overseas project sites
Highly Desirable
NEBOSH Diploma, ISEP, CQI or other relevant professional qualifications
Electrical background with experience within automation, control systems, panel build, or industrial services
Experience supporting CDM Regulations, contractor management, and site compliance
Familiarity with inspection, testing and commissioning processes (e.g. FAT/SAT)
Experience managing or supporting ISO-certified management systems
Understanding of working across international projects or multi-site operations
Experience with document control for technical drawings, specifications and revisions
Strong track record of driving behavioural change and safety culture improvement
