Key Responsibilities and Duties for Instrument Fitter
- Instrument Installation:
Accurately mount and install field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level transmitters, and analyzers) on process lines, equipment, or control panels as per technical drawings and project specifications. - Tubing & Pipework:
Fabricate, route, and install impulse and hydraulic tubing/piping for instrumentation. Execute swaging, threading, and connections for copper, stainless steel, and pneumatic lines ensuring integrity and compliance. - Instrument Cabling & Wiring:
Properly lay, terminate, and connect instrument signal and power cables in junction boxes, marshalling panels, and control cabinets with reference to wiring schedules and loop diagrams. - Instrument Calibration & Testing:
Assist in field calibration, loop checking, and functional testing of various process instruments in accordance with standards and quality procedures. - Commissioning Support:
Work with engineers during pre-commissioning and commissioning phases. Support troubleshooting and remediation of instrument-related issues during site activities. - Documentation:
Record installation, calibration, and test results. Ensure proper marking and tagging according to instrumentation index and project documentation. - Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
Strictly follow HSE standards, safe work practices, and use of PPE in all workshop and site activities. - Teamwork & Communication:
Collaborate efficiently with the engineering, electrical, and QA/QC teams to deliver high-quality installations.
Required Experience
- 2–5 years of proven work experience as an Instrument Fitter in instrumentation installation, calibration, and maintenance preferably within oil & gas, power, process, or industrial automation sectors.
- Familiarity with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of field instruments, control valves, and instrument fittings.
- Familiar with working from P&IDs, loop diagrams, and isometric drawings.
- Experience in adhering to industrial safety standards within plant or construction site environments.
Essential Skills & Competencies For Instrument Fitter
- Strong technical aptitude in use of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
- Reading and interpreting schematic diagrams and technical drawings.
- Solid experience with instrument tubing, installation standards, and plant safety.
- Effective communication, problem-solving skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team.
