Concrete Batch Plant Superintendent
The Company
VINCI Construction Grands Projets USA (formally VINCI Construction LLC) is a subsidiary of VINCI Construction Grands Projets with its main office located in Alexandria, Virginia. The scope of the company is general contracting and construction work, along with any associated services related to large, selected Design and Build projects, either public or private for which it can bring clear and strong added value. We aim to develop engineering and construction services for large infrastructure projects in various parts in the United States and provide a highly skilled and competitive professional service in construction field.Project Overview The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of FlatironDragados USA and VINCI has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The project scope across a 9-mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of concrete production, including batching, mixing, and delivery to ensure compliance with project specifications and schedules.Conduct and document quality assurance and safety inspections at the batch plant.Ensure plant equipment is maintained and operating efficiently.Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and construction teams to meet concrete delivery requirements.Monitor and adjust mix designs as needed to meet performance and environmental conditions.Maintain accurate records of material usage, production rates, and quality control results.Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company safety policies.Lead and supervise plant personnel, providing training and performance feedback.Participate in the preparation of work plans, schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.Identify and resolve operational issues promptly to avoid delays in construction.Communicate daily with field teams to align production with construction needs. Qualifications and Skills: Required: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management or a related field5+ years of construction engineering experience on heavy civil construction projectsIn-depth knowledge of concrete materials, batching processes, and quality control procedures.Experience managing a concrete batch plant in a large-scale infrastructure or tunnel project.Familiarity with DOT specifications and environmental compliance requirements.Ability to interpret technical drawings, mix designs, and construction schedules.Strong leadership and communication skills to manage plant staff and coordinate with multiple teams.Proficiency in using batching software and production tracking tools.Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment with variable hours, including nights and weekends.Work Environment:
The position requires extensive on-site presence, often in challenging and potentially hazardous conditions.Occasional office work for project planning and reporting.Working on uneven and potentially hazardous terrain, including working at heights, underground, or near water bodies depending on the bridge/ tunnel location.Exposure to extreme temperatures as well as high levels of noise and varying levels of dust.Physical Demands:
The employee is required to stand; walk; climb ladders; sit; use hands, climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.Must be able to lift 50lb or more.
