What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
The Superintendent will provide on-site coordination of all construction activities while ensuring the proper implementation of safety protocols. They will collaborate with stakeholders across the project to ensure key milestones are met and maintain accurate records of construction activities and costs.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
- Supervise subcontractor teams within the area of control
- Ensure that HSE is always guaranteed by enforcing a safe work environment, implementing and monitoring safety protocols, and conducting regular safety inspections to prevent accidents and mitigate risks
- Manage and coordinate all construction activities on the project, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable regulations
- Monitor the quality of work performed on-site to ensure adherence to industry standards, project requirements, and best practices
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to develop and implement construction schedules, work plans, and resource allocation to meet project milestones and objectives
- Identify and address any issues or obstacles that may arise during the construction process, employing effective problem-solving skills to maintain project progress and minimize delays
- Maintain accurate records of construction activities, including daily reports, progress updates, and any changes or deviations from the original plans. Provide regular reports to project management and stakeholders
- Monitor project costs, including labor, materials, and equipment, and assist in managing the project budget, seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising quality and safety standards
- Review of construction documentation (including the Safe Work Plan, JHA, Safety Plan)
- Coordination of activities required for site possession, including documentation and OPG’s permits
- A degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred
- A proven track record of at least 5-10 years in a civil construction supervisory role in the GTA, preferably on Ontario Power Generation sites
- Experience with earthworks, and utility relocation
- Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, codes, and regulations
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to motivate and guide a diverse workforce
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to liaise with team members, stakeholders, and subcontractors
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address construction challenges and provide practical solutions
- In-depth knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment
- Proficient in using construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications
- Annual gross compensation ranging from CAD 100K to CAD 130K, depending on experience and profile
