Omexom Job Description

Job Title: Environmental and Sustainability Advisor
Business Unit: Omexom UK & RoI
Location: Scotland (travel across project sites required)

About Us

Omexom specialise in the design, supply, installation, commissioning, and project management of electrical infrastructure projects for electricity utility companies and renewable energy developers throughout the UK and Ireland.

Omexom is part of VINCI Energies UK & ROI, who specialise in the provision of electrical, mechanical, and IT engineering services. In-depth know-how and ongoing commitment to employee development and training enable the delivery of comprehensive solutions — from design through to installation and maintenance — that meet our clients’ individual requirements.

The Role

The Environmental and Sustainability Advisor role will require travel across Scotland to visit various project sites as required.

The jobholder will provide support and advice to our operational teams on all aspects of environmental and sustainability management — developing documentation, meeting legal, regulatory, and company standards, and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement.

The individual will be required to work with clients, regulators, and project teams to ensure their requirements are complied with, supporting on-site mitigation, sustainability of works, and engagement with local stakeholders as required.

Support will be provided through internal and external training and coaching from the Omexom Environmental Team.

Responsibilities

Including but not limited to the following:

  • Provide advice and support to operational teams on environmental and sustainability matters.

  • Maintain relationships and liaise with regulators, clients, and subcontractors.

  • Maintain relationships with local stakeholders and project teams.

  • Support project teams in investigating any environmental incidents.

  • Ensure on-site compliance with environmental legislation and project documentation, and coach teams in applying controls and mitigations.

  • Support sustainability activities for the project and business.

  • Advise the business on best practice in areas of corporate, ethical, and social responsibility, and address any issues arising.

  • Have an awareness of biodiversity net gain and carbon emissions management in infrastructure, embodied carbon, and alignment with Omexom and associated industry sustainability targets.

  • Provide support to operations and design teams on environmental management, compliance, and project-specific mitigation measures, including pollution control and ecology and archaeology protection.

  • Investigate environmental incidents and support the business in implementing controls to prevent recurrence.

  • Produce internal and external reports as required (e.g., case studies, environmental and sustainability performance).

  • Support and conduct audit and assurance activities, including facilitating external audits by clients and certification bodies.

Essential Criteria

It is essential that the successful candidate is an excellent communicator with all stakeholders (internal and external), a commercially focused self-starter with the enthusiasm, motivation, and initiative to succeed in this role.

The jobholder must possess:

  • Strong knowledge of environmental management and sustainability issues, including Water Environment, Ecology, Archaeology, and Private Water Supplies.

  • Full UK driver’s licence and flexibility to travel.

  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly between home, office, and site.

  • Self-motivation and the ability to motivate staff at all levels.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Ability to establish effective networks, both internally and externally.

Desirable Criteria

  • Educated to degree level in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, or related discipline.

  • Practical experience and knowledge of environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licences and consent applications, and regulator consultation experience.

  • Understanding of the construction operating environment.

  • Membership of an Environmental Body (e.g., IES, IEMA).

  • Experience of PAS 2080.

  • Experience using ESRI ArcGIS.

General

This position is preferably based in Scotland. Travel to sites and attendance at project progress meetings will be required throughout Scotland.

Business travel costs will be covered by Omexom. Flexible working is available; however, a certain amount of site and office-based work is expected.

The salary and benefits package for this role will be on a personal contract basis and will be commensurate with the position level and dependent on experience.
