Senior Health & Saftey Business Partner - Leadership role M/F

01/07/2026

HEB Construction is a dynamic and innovative leader in New Zealand infrastructure, delivering everything from roading and maintenance through to complex earthworks, structures, and major projects of national significance.

As part of the VINCI Construction, we combine global expertise with local delivery to create a high-performing environment where our people thrive and deliver exceptional outcomes.

Our commitment to safety is central to how we operate and has recently been recognised through our team’s success at the 2026 NZ Workplace Health and Safety Awards for excellence in Engagement and Safety II (HOP). This recognition reflects the strength of our culture and the impact of our health and safety approach in partnering with the business to achieve optimal outcomes for our people.

About the opportunity

We are seeking a senior Health & Safety leader to join our business in a pivotal role, with flexibility to be based in Auckland, Tauranga, or Christchurch.

This role goes beyond operational delivery - you will lead the Health & Safety Advisory function nationally, providing vision, direction, and cohesion across a team of experienced H&S Advisors. You will be responsible for shaping and embedding best-practice H&S approaches that enable safe, high-performing operational delivery across HEB. Working closely with the National Health & Safety Manager, Executive team, senior stakeholders and senior operational leadership, you will play a key role in influencing organisational learning from incidents, strengthening organisational capability within the H&S Advisory function, and ensuring our approach to second line of defence health and safety assurance continues to evolve and lead the market.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a geographically dispersed team of 6 experienced H&S Advisors, building a high-performing, aligned advisory function
  • Engage and influence senior stakeholders, including project leaders and senior management, to drive safety outcomes
  • Champion best-practice Health & Safety and provide strategic input into the ongoing development of HEB’s H&S framework
  • Provide leadership across critical risk management embedment, assurance, and continual improvement initiatives
  • Oversee and guide incident investigations, ensuring meaningful insights and organisation-wide learning
  • Lead the delivery of key H&S programmes and initiatives aligned to business strategy
  • Monitor and report on safety performance, providing clear insights to inform decision-making
  • Embed a strong culture of engagement, accountability, and proactive safety leadership across all levels of the business

What we’re looking for

  • Significant experience in construction or civil infrastructure Health & Safety leadership roles
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing H&S teams across multiple locations
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with senior leaders and influencing organisational outcomes
  • Strong understanding of NZ H&S legislation and critical risk management principles
  • Ability to operate strategically while staying connected to delivery on site
  • Exceptional communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills
